Map VI French Equatorial Africa Clapier, 1920. LSHTM Library & Archives.
This map demonstrates the type of data collection and surveying that School staff who worked overseas investigating tropical diseases took part in. Maps were used to plan expeditions and record research results. As part of this survey 1,891 local residents were examined for sleeping sickness. The pie-chart style spot relates information on the percentage of the population infected with trypanosomiasis in certain areas. Similar surveys are still carried out by LSHTM today.
